Why Thunder Springs is no longer in New Games

New Games is a rolling list. On 9 October 2026 it held 18 titles, and Thunder Springs was not among them: it had moved to the Slots tab, while still appearing in the Popular tab. Springbok does not say how long a game stays in New Games, so we cannot date the move. We keep its notes because it opens our timeline: its lobby date is the oldest of the 20 releases we track.

Do not confuse it with Buffalo Mania Deluxe, a separate title listed in the same Slots tab. Our register holds no specs for it and does not say how the two are related, so treat them as separate games with separate specs.

A Springbok article on its loyalty rewards once listed Thunder Springs in the lobby's 2X Double Comps tab, a tab named for doubled comp points (the standard rate is 1 comp point per R10 wagered). The tab rotates; on 9 October 2026 it held other titles, Buffalo Mania Deluxe among them.

How the ways count grows in free games

Thunder Springs has no paylines. Springbok's article gives 1,024 ways, expanding to 16,807 ways in free games, which is why the release card tags the ways figure "Springbok says": it comes from the article, not the tile.

In a ways game, a win needs matching symbols on adjacent reels starting from the leftmost, wherever they sit on each reel, and the ways figure is the number of positions on each reel multiplied together. So the count can only climb if the reels offer more positions: during free games the grid has to grow, through taller reels or some other expansion. None of the figures we hold gives the layout, which leaves the Reels line off the release card. Bass Baggin' Bounty reaches the same base count on a 5 reels x 4 rows layout, according to its tile; Thunder Springs may be built alike, but nothing we hold says so.

More ways do not make a game more generous, because the paytable is set with every route counted in. A plain guide to paylines versus ways covers the trade-off. Side by side with two other ways releases:

Geyser Eruption Expansion, free games and Wild Stampedes

The tile names three features and describes none of them:

The names suggest eruptions that open up the screen and wilds charging across it, but a name is not a rulebook; the help screen sets out the mechanics. Unlike many recent Hold & Spin games, Thunder Springs lists no jackpot tiers.

The max bet and Springbok's bonus cap

Springbok's high-roller article gives Thunder Springs a max bet of R200. That is twice the R100 limit Springbok's terms set on every bet while a bonus is active, and winnings from bets above that limit are voided. With bonus money in play, every stake between R100 and R200 is off limits until the wagering is finished. Springbok's figures give Bass Baggin' Bounty the same max bet.

Volatility, RTP and the figures left out

The lobby tile rates Thunder Springs medium volatility, the label 13 of the 18 slots on our timeline share: between the frequent small returns of a low rating and the long quiet spells of a high one, though any session can still finish down. Beyond that, the gaps are wide:

• RTP. Not on the tile or in our register.
• Top award. No ceiling published, per line or per stake.
• Reel layout and minimum bet. Only the ways counts and the top stake are on file.

With no RTP and no ceiling, volatility is the one risk signal published, so decide before the first spin what you will spend and when you will stop.

Thunder Springs and the welcome package

Every slot counts toward wagering under Springbok's terms, so Thunder Springs works with the R11,500 welcome package. Redeem SPRINGBOK100 at the cashier before depositing, because a coupon cannot be attached afterwards, and plan for 30x wagering on deposit plus bonus.

The one adjustment is the stake: set it at or under R100 before the first spin and leave it there until the wagering is done, however much higher the game's own maximum goes.

Where Thunder Springs sits on the timeline

Thunder Springs is the oldest release on our timeline. The next, Blazing Horse and its four jackpot tiers, followed five weeks later, the longest gap we have recorded; after that, new slots mostly arrived two weeks apart, always on a Wednesday.
